Volunteer opportunity description

Join the West Philadelphia Soup Squad!

We’re looking for small groups to prepare soup for home-bound seniors.

All you need is 1) a minimum of 5 participants, 2) a burner, and 3) a place to cut up fresh vegetables.

We supply everything—pots, utensils, knives, cutting boards, even the food (although donations are appreciated).

Get together with your friends or family, talk and visit, while you prepare, package and label some nutritious soup for a needy and deserving population of home-bound seniors.  Volunteer monthly, quarterly, or as a one time special event.

The soup you prepare is part of a week’s worth of meals delivered by the Cook for a Friend Home Delivered Meal Programat the Klein JCC.  It’s a tremendous contribution of time and nutrition, and also lots of fun!

(Due to Board of Health restrictions, soup for distribution for this program cannot be prepared in a private home.  Any commercial kitchen is acceptable)

A community or commercial kitchen.  At least 5 volunteers

At least three weeks notice to schedule kitchen space if your group does not have access to a community/commercial kitchen.

Our volunteer needs

We need volunteers who are free at these times
