Description & History

STMSTV has been providing services, activities and programs within the Philadelphia and surrounding counties for the past decade. One of our initial goa0s is to decrease at-risk behavior among our inner city children.  We have been prevalent in connecting with youth through sports and recreation.  More importantly, we have provided mentoring activities with positive role models in lectures, workshops and life skills activities.   Currently, we still provide all of the above activities with an increased membership within our youth basketball leagues. Furthermore, we engage our youth in bowling, chess, tennis and football.  STMSTV and VOC have provided some college bound activities that have included college tours for the past two years. Currently we are looking to expand our programs pending additional funding for to focus on young women (“It’s a girl’s life”) as it relates to etiquette, and making the proper life decisions. We will be launching an afterschool program called OPTIONS. Our OPTIONS program  will provide alternatives for Real Life Job Training skills, academic enrichment writing courses, college bound choices with PSAT and SAT’s study prep, FAFSA completion that include resources for parent involvement and transportation to testing sites. The goal is to improve the lives of students from educationally and/or economically disadvantaged communities with the objective of preparing  youth to succeed as contributing members o f society while increasing college admissions and viable careers. Finally through intellectual life skills training, community service involvement and cultural exposure will help to support these goals. OPTIONS will take place in the fall of 2013 on Tues and Thursdays from 3p.m-6p.m at the John C. Anderson Cultural Center located at 5225 Overbrook Ave.
